Dreaming in 2020
We’re in a new decade, and everyone is all a buzz with resolutions, plans, vision, and goals. We’re definitely not New Year (or new decade) resolution type people, but the turning on the calendar year has us reflecting on what we want things to look like going forward.
In terms of our business, there is of course the hope of growth, more sales, healthy finances, etc. but more than anything I think we’re looking for more connection. In a world full of Instagram, etc. etc. etc. we don’t want to just be white noise. We don’t want to just be another photo on the screen, a distraction, a waste of your attention. We still don’t know exactly what that connection will look like going forward, but we’re excited to figure it out. Personally, we also want to have more connection with those around us. Our neighbors, friends, family, church community. Here are some other things we’re dreaming about:
- We definitely have the space, and we even have some raised beds that we built that are waiting to be filled with soil. But it always feels like there’s something else that has to be done first. We recently watched the documentary Biggest Little Farm (which we highly recommend) and we found it very inspiring. If they can work hard and build this amazing farm, we can get our hands dirty and get our raised beds going. We’re excited to get the kids involved and all get our hands dirty.
- We’re all in. On any given day, we usually have sauerkraut on the counter, kombucha and ginger beer fermenting, our sourdough bread starter waiting to be used for a delicious loaf of bread, and fresh batches of milk kefir in the fridge. And Shem was just chatting with the yogurt guy at the Farmer’s Market about making our own at home. Oh, and Shem dreams about opening up a fermenting shop that supplies all the necessities for the home fermenter, as well as hosts workshops.
- Oh baby oh baby. We are expecting our fourth child in July, and we are so excited for this precious little summer baby to arrive.
